Indiana Council of
Teachers of Mathematics
The Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) is a statewide organization concerned with and working for the interests of mathematics educators and mathematics education. The membership including the ICTM Board of Directors, includes teachers from all levels and from all parts of the state. The activities of the council are many and varied, as are the benefits to be derived from membership and participation, some of which are described briefly here.
Professional
Meetings
ICTM sponsors a
number of professional meetings in various parts of the state at various times
during the year. The annual meeting is held each fall, usually in Indianapolis,
and there are ICTM-planned name-of-site and national meetings held in
conjunction with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. At all of
these meetings there are special interest sections and workshops for mathematics
teachers at all levels - elementary, junior high/middle school, senior high,
college and university - as well as general- interest sections. These meetings
offer teachers Opportunities to share ideas in an informal setting and to meet
others with similar problems and interests. In addition, there are always
commercial displays of professional materials available for examination and
purchase. Often exhibitors make available free or very inexpensive samples.
Publications
Members of ICTM receive copies of all council publications. Principal among these are the Indiana Mathematics Teacher (journal) and the Exponent (newsletter). The publications contain articles for classroom application, special interest sections, reports of achievements of students and teachers, announcements about meetings, conferences, and programs, and other items of interest to teachers.
Opportunities to Participate
To be truly effective, ICTM needs the support and participation of all mathematics teachers. With the issues confronting educators in general, and mathematics educators in particular, it is essential that we work together.
If
you are already a member of ICTM, we urge you to maintain your membership and
participate. If you are not a member, please select the appropriate category
from those described here and use the form from this brochure to apply for
membership
Types of Membership
There are four types of membership
Regular members are any persons interested in mathematics education in the state of Indiana. These members receive one copy of each ICTM journal, and newsletter, and are eligible to register for ICI'M regional and state meetings.
Student members, preservice teachers registered in any college or university, receive all the benefits of regular memberships, but at a reduced rate.
Elementary building membership provides three copies of each journal and newsletter for the elementary school building, and all its teachers are eligible to register for ICTM regional and state meetings.
Life members are past recipients of the ICTM Retiring Teacher Award or have made a one-time-only payment of life membership dues and are eligible for all benefits of regular members.
